I studied art at Blackpool School of art before going on to teach. I paint whatever takes my fancy or offers a challenge. I work mostly in watercolour and pastel and choose my medium to suit the subject.
I particularly like the way that the subject can influence the medium. For instance the delicacy of water colour for flowers and the vibrancy of pastels for scenes.
My subject sources come from the things around me -the Lake district , the Yorkshire Dales, animals,( goats, hens, cockerels, sheep, pigs, dogs cats) and flowers. I am continually developing my 'style' and like to try different approaches to a subject.
I have exhibited and sold my work both in the UK and in the USA. and had work published in the SAA magazine.
Recently I have produced 3 calendars of local scenes in my hometown of Earby in Lancashire and nearby Barnoldswick and Skipton which have been a sell-out and for which I was awarded a certificate 'Pride of Barnoldswick' by the town council for promoting the town through my artwork.
